Learn From NYC's Best Working Professionals
The Top NYC Acting Studio for Acting Classes in Theatre, Film and Television.
Acting comes from an actor's ability to understand and bring to life within themselves what other people know, feel and are experiencing. There is no better resource to gain that understanding of people and draw from their experiences than New York City. And there is no acting studio to learn to bring that understanding to life than Michael Howard Studios; the acting studio with acting classes taught by people who are successful in film, stage and television. Welcome to Michael Howard Studios NYC.
"It's not about just one way, one technique or method. It is about finding the method that works for you. We want to help you find your voice, your path to mastering the art. The path that makes the most of your talent and creativity."
"Acting is behaving truthfully under imaginary circumstances."
- Sanford Meisner
Founded in 1953 by actor and director Michael Howard, a protege of both Sanford Meisner at the Neighborhood Playhouse and Lee Strasberg at the Actor’s Studio, it is the longest running, privately-owned acting Studio in New York. Michael established his Studio grounded in the dramatic innovations of Konstantin Stanislavski. The Studio has evolved to incorporate many schools of thought and techniques from around the world. Its core belief is to help actors develop a technique - a method which is truly individual.
SOME STUDY PROGRAMS ON HOLD DUE TO COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS
If you’re a committed artist who is looking to train towards the purpose of working in theater, film, television and new media, we'd like to welcome you to apply to the ensemble that we have planned for the upcoming year.
Core scene study work and specialist workshops create our renowned One-Year, Two-Year, Summer, and Young Actor Conservatories. These programs are designed to strengthen the actor’s instrument, inspire the imagination, and prepare the actor for a professional career.
The Text and Scene Study Classes offer students a chance to learn, develop, and perfect their craft under the focused guidance of an instructor and in the presence of their peers. Admission to these classes is highly selective, and each prospective student is required to meet with the teacher before enrollment. In some cases, an audition may be required as well.
Surrounding our core teacher-mentors are brilliant specialists. Three or four times a year, these immensely gifted and experienced trainers conduct workshops that concentrate on particular aspects of the actor's craft: voice, body, language, style, comedy, the classics - including Shakespeare, song, on-camera, and audition. I invite you to join us. Take the classes you need, can afford, and that fit your schedule.
