Noel MacDuffie
is a Freelance Director with an extensive background in choreography and modern dance. His work, which often includes movement theater and puppetry, has been presented around New York and internationally. He directs new works, classics, and musicals. Recent productions include the full Oresteia, Jesus Christ Superstar, Arcadia, Xanadu, Grand Horizons, Gi60 one-minute play festival, and A Gentleman's Guide to Love and Murder. Recent new works include Double Crossed, The Kitchen, and Cambriolage. He holds an MFA in Directing from Brooklyn College and is a recipient of the Joel Zwick Scholarship for Outstanding Student in Directing.
Noel danced professionally with the Carolyn Dorfman Dance Company and the Nancy Hauser Dance Company, among others. He is the choreographer of over 30 modern dance works including 3 evening length narrative pieces exploring loss and regret (The Snow Queen, Soul Descending; 3 am, 89 °, no wind). He is the recipient of the 2006 Brio Award for excellence in choreography. Noel has been a teaching artist for City Center, American Ballet Theater, and the Carolyn Dorfman Dance Company.
Noel is currently a member of the Playwright/Director Workshop, a year long development workshop for new work. He also serves on the Board of Directors for Gallery Players where he produces Have You Heard? a reading series of thought provoking published works that are rarely produced. He is the former president of the board at Heights Players.
Noel has been a Pilates Instructor specializing in injuries and sensitivities for 23 years. He has trained with renowned movement teacher Irene Dowd of the Juilliard School for the past twenty years.
