Noel MacDuffie is a Freelance Director with an extensive modern dance background. He directs new works, classics, and musicals. His work, which often includes movement theater and puppetry, has been presented around New York and internationally.
Recent directing includes the full Oresteia, Jesus Christ Superstar, Double Crossed, Xanadu, 12 one-minute plays as part of Gi60, and Arcadia. MFA in Directing from Brooklyn College. Recipient of the Joel Zwick Scholarship for Outstanding Student in Directing.
Noel danced professionally with the Carolyn Dorfman Dance Company and the Nancy Hauser Dance Company. He is the choreographer of over 30 modern dance works including 3 evening length narrative pieces exploring loss and regret. (The Snow Queen, Soul Descending; 3 am, 89 °, no wind). He is the recipient of the 2006 Brio Award for excellence in choreography. Noel has been a teaching artist for City Center, American Ballet Theater, and the Carolyn Dorfman Dance Company.
Noel is currently a member director, of the Actors Studio Playwright/Director Workshop that develops new works throughout the year.
He serves on the board member of The Gallery Players and is the former President of the Board of the Heights Players. He produces Have You Heard? a reading series of thought provoking published works that are rarely produced.
Noel also regularly designs lighting for theater and dance.
Noel has been a Pilates Instructor specializing in injuries and sensitivities for 23 years. He has trained with renowned movement teacher Irene Dowd of the Juilliard School for the past twenty years.
